In August we took the boys to Rocky Mountain National Park for a last-adventure-of-the-summer camping trip. Here is our weekend in photos.

Snow is just around the corner and I’m just now getting around to posting some of our summer adventures..

In August, Mariah  was in Colorado for a visit so we took her along for an afternoon of rock climbing. She was a rock star.

Learning the ropes.

Taking in the gorgeous views.

Josh showing us some action.

Thanks to Mariah for capturing this photo of us.

Josh and Matt talking guy stuff.

(notice our container garden- getting so big!)

Hooping shenanigans.

Not much can beat the squished face of a sleeping babe.

Watching Sara hoop is mesmerizing. She’s graceful and funky..and so fun.

Emmaline and her daddy.

Pure sweetness.

Happy.

Sweet, camera-cheesing, Lucy

The kiddos mowed down veggie dogs, watermelon and berries.

Arugula tossed with quinoa and topped with strawberries, red onion, toasted hazelnuts and marinated and baked tempeh

See the rest of the photos I took of Sara’s gorgeous face over on my other blog.

Some families go on Sunday drives together…we prefer something a little more invigorating. Last night we headed up to the Nip and Tuck crag in Boulder Canyon and the 4 of us got up on the rocks.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been plagued with a mind that races…just bounces all over the place. I find it so incredibly difficult to concentrate on one specific thought or task and there are always at least 3 or 4 thoughts running around in the back of my mind. Imagine watching a movie, with 3 other TV shows and the radio on in the background..and then trying to hone in on just one of those- or even 2 at one time. That’s how I feel at many points throughout my day.

Since starting yoga and occasionally trying to meditate, I’ve had moments of stillness where my mind can just let go- though those moments are still fewer than I would like.

Today, Josh took me out for my first time rock climbing and through 2 entire climbing routes I felt peace. My mind was still for the longest period, ever, in my life. It was like I was meditating while hanging out on the face of a large rock.. and it was bliss.

Here is our day:

First we had to wade across the ice cold creek. The tyrolean traverse wasn’t going to happen because the rope was far too close to the water.

The shot on the left was taken just after I came down from my first climb.

Learning how to tie a figure 8 knot.

Starting my second climb.

My favorite climbing shot of the day.

My second favorite climbing shot of the day.

Katelyn and I found ourselves driving behind this fellow yesterday.  I wonder how long it will take him to realize that “outnumber” is one word.

About Josh

Josh is a software engineer, dad, musician, and rock climber. He loves all things tech and all things outdoors. You can generally find him climbing some rocks, doing crazy classes at the rock gym, coding, or doing something geeky.

If you decide you’d like to visit Haus Von Kaiser, know that you’ll be serenaded by Josh – and I’ll whip you up some fresh baked goodies. You really ought to come out, but in the meantime here is Josh convincing you to show up at our door by belting out She Talks To Angels by The Black Crows.
